EDM Draw in public

My first attempt at drawing in public. This is the new marquee for Key West's Tropic Cinema. Very art deco. From one block away, looking north, you see the bright colors and curves juxtaposed against the very cubist angles of St. Paul's Episcopal church on Duval street. One day I will attempt to draw that view. I'm not quite there with perspective when it comes to buildings and angles, especially when trying to draw quickly. Regardless, it was fun and my half hour of waiting before my movie flew by.
The next drawing was my attempt at drawing the lobby of the theater. Big mistake! Lots of angles, curves, pipes, colors, depth...a lot of visual informationt to organize. Maybe next time I'll get it down more accurately.

P.S. The flower was something I saw in my yard in the morning that I tried sketching from memory hours later.

EDM 8 - A piece of Jewelry

This is a pendant I bought at a local art gallery. It's only about an inch square but I thought it would be neat to fill up the page and draw it huge.

EDM 3 - Wallet

My wallet with a 5 dollar bill scanned in and added with Photoshop.

EDM 15- Leaf

Green Buttonwood leaf. One day I hope to draw every species of native plants that are growing on my property. This green buttonwood is one of my favorites b/c it provides a great habitat for the native florida orchids. It's fast growing and had really helped fill in the spots where I've taken out the Brazilian Pepper (devil plant!). The Buttonwoods are part of phase one of rebuilding the native habitat destroyed by exotics and hurricane Wilma. I really should have drawn an entire branch to really get a feel for how beautiful this tree is.

EDM 5 Draw your Bed

This isn't my bed, but I wish this were my bed. I drew this from a book about Mexican homes and this is my dream bed. Since my bed is a mattress on boxspring w/ mismatched sheets, I wasn't very inspired to draw from reality!

EDM 7

Draw a jar or tin from the kitchen

I keep the tequila in the kitchen and it seemed like the best looking, most interesting "jar" so I chose this to sketch. Background colored in Photoshop.

Tree Frog.

Not an EDM challenge, but I felt like sticking this guy in this blog for the heck of it. Colored pencil on illustation board.

EDM 25 - A Glass

My glass of juice which ended up very lopsided when I drew it.

EDM 10-My Hand

Pen and ink, background in Photoshop.

EDM #1
Draw a shoe-This is my trampy, fake tiger fur heel that I love to wear b/c it's so not me. Doesn't really go with my tattered shorts and flip flop look. But it's a great shoe. The first version is just the sketch, the second is colored in Photoshop.

EDM challenge (#33)-Draw an Eye.
Sketch of Anh Duong's eye from the cover of her book of self portraits. Eye color added in Photoshop.

EDM Challenge #32-Draw something metallic.
My constant companion-my silver iPod mini. I Photoshopped my iPod screen in and colored the background to make it a bit more interesting.

September 11, 2005

My first EDM challenge (#31)-Draw something you collect. I couldn't find anything that I collect, in fact I like to purge and throw things out, donate, etc. to get all extras out of the house. But when I looked around I saw pairs upon pairs of flip flops strewn around the house. So I guess I "collect" flip flops in every style and color imaginable. Only drew one as my hand is in a brace from to much mouse use!

Ciao!
